A lamp that converts electrical energy into light energy by passing current through its filament is called an electric lamp.
There are basically three types of electric lamps:-
1. Filament Lamp– These types of lamps are called filament lamps because the light is diffused from the filament, such as carbon filament lamps, vacuum metal filament lamps, gas filled coiled filament lamps, LED lamps.
2. Arc Lamps- The wattage of arc lamps is very high, so this type of lamp is not used in homes.
3. Gas Discharge Lamp- In this type of lamp, gas discharge lamps are made by placing two electrodes on both sides of a glass tube and filling it with gas such as sodium vapor, mercury vapor, neon, xenon, etc. For example, mercury vapor lamps, energy saving lamps, tube lights, etc. are gas discharge lamps.
4. LED Light: Currently, LED lights are widely used. The brightness of this type of lamp is much higher. The popularity of this type of lamp is increasing due to the fact that the current consumption is very low.
Use of Electric Lamp
By converting electrical energy into light energy, electric lamps are used to illuminate the dark places of houses, offices, courts, factories, markets, roads, railway yards, etc.
