A device formed by connecting a p-type semiconductor and an n-type semiconductor material together electronically is called a diode. So Diode is a Semiconductor Device. Its other name is Rectifying Diode. Through the Rectifying Diode current flows only in one direction so AC can be converted to DC with its help.

Most electronics circuits require a DC supply. The cost of using batteries in this work is very high. So AC voltage is converted to DC using diodes. This process of transformation is called rectification. Thus AC is converted to DC through diodes and DC voltage is provided to the electronics circuit.
