Electricity is an invisible force that cannot be seen but its effects can be felt. Electricity is generated through various types of energy conversion. The process by which electrical energy is produced is called electricity generator.
Power Generation Methods:
Electricity generation process with the help of gas power plant:
A gas-fired power plant heats a mixture of air and fuel at very high temperatures and burns them under constant pressure conditions to generate electricity. The hot gas is then allowed to expand through the turbine. As a result, the pressure of the hot gas causes the blades of the turbine to rotate, i.e. a mechanical power is generated. This energy then turns a generator which produces electricity. The generated electricity is stepped up through transformers and fed to transmission lines commercially.
Hydro-electric Power Plant:
Working Procedure of Hydro-electric Power Plant:
water reservoir at higher altitudes is a pre-requisite for this purpose . Power house is located at a lower level. In this method of generation, water from higher height is passed through penstock as controlled in the valve- house, into the water turbine. Thus , potential energy of water stored at higher altitudes is first converted into kinetic energy. As the Water reaches the turbine, it gains speed after losing the potential energy. kinetic energy of this speedy water drives the water turbine, which converts this into mechanical output. Its drives the couple Alternator, which gives Electrical energy output.
Desal Power Plant:
Method of Power Generation in Diesel Power Plant:
In a diesel power station, the diesel engine basically acts as the prime mover. I Diesel engine burns diesel inside to generate a mechanical power. With the help of this mechanical energy, the alternator is rotated to generate electricity. Later, with this generated electricity, the electricity needs of various types of mills-industry and office courts are met.
